Angie Theresia receives prestigious Sir William Siemens Medal Award 2013

Nine young engineers from some of the UK’s leading universities, have been recognised by their universities and Siemens as being the most outstanding students in their year.

Angie-Theresia

Angie Theresia receives her Siemens Medal on the Sir William Siemens Medal Award. Siemens recognises and awards undergraduate excellence in engineering by invited its partner universities to nominate 3 top students from their Engineering schools, and invite the nominated students to write a personal statement on why they should be selected as a recipient of the prestigious award, along with a 500-word essay on the topic: ‘What’s the most important technology breakthrough of the last decade and what will be the most important one of the next decade?’

There was one winner from each university; and one overall winner nationally. The winner was chosen based on academic excellence, Angie Theresia, a second year Mechanical engineering student, was honoured to represent the School of MACE on this occasion and became the winner from Manchester, and the national runner-up for the Sir William Siemens Medal Award.

Although unable to attend the Award ceremony in London on the 4th of February 2013, Angie was honored to be invited to a drinks reception just a week afterwards, in our own John Rylands Library, where she had the opportunity to meet and network with key personnel from Siemens and the University of Manchester, including the President of the University of Manchester, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, and Juergen Maier, the Managing Director of Siemens UK Industry Sector.

As a winner from the University, Siemens awarded Angie with a medal, a certificate, a miniature wind-turbine and also secured her a year-long paid internship with Siemens.
