“An unusual question certainly needs an unusual explanation, too,” answered Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia when students of grade 11 BINUS SCHOOL Simprug asked many questions to him in “Lecture and Dialogue with the Minister of Religious Affairs.” Having a theme of nationality and national characters, the lecture was held at 8th floor of hall BINUS SCHOOL Simprug on Wednesday (6/5) at 3 pm.
Lecturing about the relationship between religions and nationality, Lukman explained how importance the roles of religions were in social life, especially in Indonesia. Furthermore, he pointed out that the attitude of respecting differences was necessary to avoid conflicts.
On that occasion, the participants could ask questions and give their opinions. “Through this lecture and dialogue, I know better about the roles of religion in Indonesia, like in terms of interreligious marriage and others explained by the Minister. These, of course, gain my knowledge,” said Vienna val Berlen, one of grade-11 students attending the lecture.
Not only students and parents, but representatives of religious education’s teachers as the members of PYP Dunia (schools all around Indonesia applying International Baccalaureate – Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP) curicullum) attended the lecture.
This event could be organized due to the initiative from BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, especially Maria V.A Gosal, one of religious education teachers who is also the Co-Chair of PYP Dunia for Religion Teacher. Together with the Minister of Religious Affairs, they agreed that students should have a strong foundation of religion so that they could have more nationalism and become the pride of Indonesia. The presence of the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia at BINUS SCHOOL Simprug brought new insights to the students as well as became an honor for BINUS SCHOOL Simprug. (LN)
