BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Simprug at the 5th International Young Leaders Forum in Australia
After hosting the 4th International Young Leaders Forum (IYLF) 2012 in Jakarta, this year BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Simprug and Serpong attended the 5th IYLF in Brisbane, Australia. The IYLF is the international forum formed through an alliance of five like-minded schools in the Asia Pacific Region – BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (Indonesia), Bugil Academy (South Korea), Brisbane Grammar School (Australia), Hwa Chong Institution (Singapore) and Suzhou Foreign Language School (China) in order to create a platform for student leaders to develop international networks of peers and a keen awareness of global issues as well as a strong sense of social responsibility.
Farah Labita (Grade 11HR3), one of the delegates from BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Simprug shared with us her experiences, ”I was first of all honored to be chosen to represent BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Simprug in this international affair. I was beyond thrilled, preparing for the trip together with my other mates from Jakarta. We arrived in Brisbane and we found out we were staying with roommates from different countries. When the Festival of Dangerous Ideas came, we were put into small groups of mixed members from China, Korea, Indonesia, Australia and Singapore. We were given a task at hand concerning global issues that we were supposed to brainstorm a most creative solution for. I loved my team, working with them was brilliant, but most of all I felt so fortunate to be able to share ideas and be involved where different minds come together and create something that was more than creative to me, but a diverse, unique and one of a kind product. All the 6 teams arrived with brilliant dangerous ideas which stunned each of us. What hit me the most was that, as international students, we worked together with different perspectives and different cultures, representing different people but coming up with a product that was able to help all. I made friends during this trip that I will never be able to forget. IYLF was definitely an event to remember. Memories were created that I will never be able to forget. New eye-opening experiences that changed me as a person, in the positive way. I wish I could go to Brisbane and start all over again.”
Pretty similar with Farah, Stacey Beth Agustino (Grade 11HR3) from BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Simprug also shared us her fruitfull experiences there, “The International Young Leaders Forum was one of the best weeks I have ever had in my life so far. I had the immense fun during my stay in Brisbane. With some friends from different countries, we were handled the difficult situations together as it challenged us physically and mentally. All the team building and games were not the only parts that were fun. Even the discussions for the forum were also fun! Trying to make a solution to help a problem of the world with my group was very interesting. Hearing the things that other countries go through was very cool. The IYLF was one of the greatest memories I have made. Even until this day, I wouldn’t mind turning back time and redoing the whole week all over again.“
Together with Farah and Stacey, students who also proudly represented BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL at this event were: Omar Alvaro Bastaman (Grade 10-B), Heidy Kong (Grade 11HR5) from BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Simprug, and Maria Justina (Grade 12-J), Dany Muhajir Sjafiie (Grade 12-J), Ivanova Anjani (Grade 12-G), Regina Alyssa (Grade 11–H) from BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong. As delegates, these students between 16-18 years old have to be fluent in English, show leadership skills, are active in organizations, with excellent academic records, as well as being highly enthusiastic to work with other delegations.
