Valedictorian Class of 2023: Chiara Amanda Santoso

“When I was first asked to prepare this speech, I wondered what I will say beyond expressing gratitude. I questioned whether I am the right person to stand here representing our amazing cohort. I pondered on the idea of giving advice, but I know that we are all stepping into the unknown together. We are embarking on our next adventure, and none of us have all the answers. So, instead, I’ll share about what has been instrumental in our growth as individuals and achievers, by putting aside “I” and “me” and embracing the power of “we” and “us” throughout this journey together.

When Covid hits, we were forced to stay home and do everything remotely, including online learning. It made me realized how much I had taken certain aspects of my life for granted, such as the simple joys of going to school and be with all of you. Month after month, as I stared at screens, my motivation waned. And then came DP, the most challenging part of our journey. It was tough, really tough on all of us, me included – trust me…

But as we get to return to school and be together again in our final year; It was in those moments that I understood the magic of “us”, the power of “we” are being together, always having each other’s backs, getting silly together, and unwaveringly supporting each other through it all. We together have lifted each other to be our better self. It was through these collective efforts of Us – friends, families, teachers, and you who has been part of this journey, that keep Us going and be here today. I know it is for me, you’ve kept me going and made me stand here today.

So, thank you, everyone! Thank you to the students who made the mundane days colorful and the stressful days more manageable. Thank you to the teachers for your selfless dedication and tireless efforts to our education. And thank you to our parents & families who supported us through it all. It’s an honor being your student, and it’s a privilege being your classmate. Once again, congratulations Class of 2023!”
