American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) is a global event designed to foster enthusiasm, academic interests, and problem-solving skills related to math. Created for elementary, middle school, and high school students, the event allows them to compete against diverse students from around the world.

All the challenges in the competition are created by distinguished groups of math educators from Southern Illinois University. Using the Common Core Math, educators create tests that both challenge and excite students’ interests. They also use a standard match curriculum as the base, which opens up the competition for global students.

Competing in AMO also provides participants with many benefits. Students can be exposed to various educational opportunities and even scholarships. A great start for students who dream of studying math (and other related programs) abroad.

BINUS SCHOOL Simprug did more than provide a selection venue for Indonesian AMO competitors. With their supportive teachers and learning environment, the school allows young math prodigies to earn various benefits:

Fostering Interests in Math

Math is often seen as a scary subject, especially if the students are devoid of a supportive and creative learning environment. With their program, BINUS SCHOOL Simprug showed students that math can be exciting in its challenges.

By fostering this interest in students, the school aimed to increase a positive view toward math and its possibilities. Students will be more likely to study math and other related subjects in higher education if they have garnered interest since elementary and middle grades.

Opening Educational Opportunities

BINUS SCHOOL aims to provide education that meets international standards for Indonesian students. By opening opportunities to join the selection process, the school exposes students to doors toward higher education abroad. Joining the AMO also allows students to earn more educational opportunities at prestigious international universities.

Developing Math-related Skills and Knowledge

Solving math problems requires several important skills, and students will benefit from fostering them as early as possible. Critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to approach a problem from multiple points of view are important.

Teachers will encourage students to face each math problem using these skills. Aside from working on math problems, students can also learn these skills to tackle other educational challenges, even in their higher education.

Widening Academic Interests

Math is an integral part of various academic interests, especially STEM. Students who have interests and skills in math can get opportunities to study fields that require it. This is important to increase interest in STEM fields, especially when many future industries covet graduates with such skills.

For example, students may think of becoming engineers, chemists, scientists, or computer experts. They can also apply math-related skills and knowledge in non-STEM fields, like becoming a market researcher, tax expert, financial consultant, analyst, and more.

BINUS SCHOOL Simprug proved its reputation as a prestigious educational institution by partnering with the American Mathematics Olympiad to select Indonesian participants. Sign up your children for school for more similar opportunities in the future!
