BINUS SCHOOL Simprug Religion Retreat 2024: Fostering Unity Through Faith

From September 5 to 7, 2024, BINUS SCHOOL Simprug orchestrated a unique and enriching experience for its students by hosting a multi-religion retreat. This retreat, aimed at students in grades 6 through 11, was designed to deepen their understanding of their own faiths while promoting shared values of respect and care among different religious communities. With a focus on unity through diversity, the event saw participation from five major religions, each gathering at distinct locations to reflect and engage in their spiritual practices.

The retreat was thoughtfully organized to ensure that each religious group had a space perfectly suited to their spiritual needs.
Buddhists gathered at R Hotel Pancamaya, where the serene atmosphere enhanced their meditation and discussions. Catholics, on the other hand, found solace at Wisma Tugu Wacana in Cisarua, a peaceful setting that encouraged reflection and deep conversations.
Christians enjoyed the calming environment of 5G Resort Cijeruk, which was ideal for worship and fellowship, while Muslims were accommodated at Villa Bukit Pinus Pancawati, where prayer and reflection were central to their experience.
Hindus spent their time at Kebunku Bogor, where the tranquil ambiance supported their spiritual activities. Every venue was chosen with care, ensuring the students had the perfect environment to deepen their connection to their faith.
Each venue was carefully selected to align with the spiritual needs and practices of the respective faiths, providing an ideal environment for the students to delve deeper into their religious traditions.
Shared Values and Respect
Maria V. Gosal, the Head of Religion Subject at BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, emphasized that the theme of this year’s retreat was “Shared Values, Respect, and Care.” This theme was not merely a slogan but a guiding principle throughout the three days of the retreat. Students were encouraged to explore the commonalities between their faiths, fostering a sense of mutual understanding and respect.
She also expressed her hope that all participants, including students, supervisors, and the Kakak CAS Committee, would reflect on this theme and “move forward together for the sake of BINUS SCHOOL Simprug.”

The retreat offered a rich array of activities that catered to the spiritual needs of students from different religious backgrounds while fostering teamwork and communal bonding. Buddhist students spent time listening to Dharma talks, followed by engaging in social service projects that connected them with the wider community.
For Catholic students, the retreat featured reflective discussions and the celebration of Mass, creating moments of introspection and connection with their faith. They too participated in community service projects, along with team-building activities that strengthened their bonds with one another.
Christian students deepened their spiritual connection through worship services, while also serving the community. Their retreat experience was rounded out with interactive exercises and games that promoted both teamwork and spiritual growth.
Muslim students engaged in listening to sermon and prayer sessions, complemented by community service work. They also took part in group exercises and games aimed at fostering unity and collaboration.
Hindu students found their retreat experience enriched with pujas and yoga classes, alongside community service initiatives. Their activities included interactive games that encouraged a sense of belonging and mutual respect among the group.
These activities were designed not only to enhance students’ understanding of their own faith but also to foster a broader appreciation for the diversity of religious beliefs.
A Lasting Impact
The BINUS SCHOOL Simprug Religion Retreat 2024 was more than a collection of activities; it was a celebration of religious diversity and a testament to the school’s commitment to holistic education. By providing an environment where students could engage deeply with their faith while learning about others, the retreat promoted unity and respect among the next generation of leaders.
As students return to their daily routines, they carry with them a deeper understanding of their own religion and a renewed appreciation for the beliefs of their peers. This experience is expected to have a lasting impact, shaping their perspectives and interactions in meaningful ways.
Looking ahead, BINUS SCHOOL Simprug plans to continue fostering inclusive experiences, reflecting its dedication to nurturing a more understanding and respectful world.
