BINUS SCHOOL Simprug Passion Project 2025: Students Lead the Way through Passion and Presentation

At BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, student voice is not simply encouraged—it is celebrated. In 2025, learners from Grades 1 to 4 participated in the highly anticipated Passion Project, a student-led initiative designed to nurture personal interests, develop inquiry skills, and build presentation confidence.

The Passion Project initiative reflects the school’s commitment to cultivating a love for learning that goes beyond the traditional classroom experience. By allowing students to pursue topics they genuinely care about, the school fosters independence, creativity, and deeper engagement—hallmarks of 21st-century learning.

The Essence of the Passion Project

As Ms Jen, a Grade 3 teacher, eloquently describes, “A passion project is an inquiry-based learning journey where students explore what they are passionate about. Students ask questions, conduct research, create a product that reflects their understanding and share their learning with the community.”

This process empowers even the youngest learners to take control of their education. Instead of being told what to learn, students decide what they want to explore—be it animals, music, sports, space, literature, or environmental causes. Through structured guidance and teacher mentorship, they learn how to formulate meaningful questions, gather relevant information, and translate their knowledge into a tangible outcome.

From Passion to Product

Over several weeks, students moved through a thoughtful cycle of inquiry. They began by brainstorming topics that resonated with them on a personal level. From there, they investigated their chosen themes using many different resources. The research phase culminated in a product—ranging from posters, booklets, and models to slideshows and creative displays—that showcased their understanding.

Each project was as unique as the student behind it. This year, one student, Soyi from Grade 4, explored her passion for reading. Her display was filled with pages from her favourite books, personal reflections, and reasons why reading brings her joy. She also offered suggestions for readers who may struggle to find books they connect with.

Soyi’s project was just one of many that reflected the diversity and depth of student interests. Other pupils presented on topics such as endangered animals, robotics, dance, historical figures, and the wonders of the ocean. Regardless of the subject, each student took great pride in crafting a project that was entirely their own.

Presentation as a Life Skill

One of the key aims of the Passion Project is to build students’ presentation skills. Speaking confidently in front of peers, parents, and teachers is a core component of the final stage. Learners are encouraged to articulate their ideas clearly, answer questions, and engage their audience—all in a supportive and encouraging environment.

For many children, this was their first time presenting to a group, and the results were impressive. Despite their young age, students demonstrated clarity of thought, expressive language, and confidence that is rarely seen in such early years. The ability to communicate one’s ideas effectively is an essential life skill, and the Passion Project provides the ideal platform to practise it.

A Culture of Celebration and Support

The atmosphere during the final presentations was nothing short of inspiring. Classrooms were transformed into galleries and exhibition spaces, buzzing with excitement and curiosity. Parents, teachers, and fellow students moved from one display to another, asking questions and offering words of encouragement.

Beyond the individual projects, what stood out most was the sense of pride and ownership evident in each child’s work. Students were eager not only to present but to share what they had learned—demonstrating that learning is most powerful when it is meaningful and relevant.

Looking Ahead: Passion as a Foundation

Passion Project 2025 at BINUS SCHOOL Simprug has once again shown that when students are given the freedom to pursue what excites them, remarkable learning takes place. It is an experience that combines academic rigour with personal growth, while preparing students for the challenges of future learning.

By encouraging inquiry, strengthening communication, and celebrating individuality, the school ensures that students from Grades 1 to 4 are not only engaged in the present but are also equipped with the tools to become confident, curious, and capable learners in the years ahead.
