Meet the Young Innovators: BINUS SCHOOL Simprug Class of 2026 CAS Team Turns Rainwater into Global Recognition

#EveryJourneyStartsHere, where creativity meets compassion, our students transformed rainfall into a sustainable and accessible water solution. What began as a student-led idea to harness the abundant rainfall of Greater Jakarta and Java has grown into a globally recognised innovation. We guide them from the very start, helping them step into society not only with knowledge, but with purpose, passion, and the power to make a difference.
BINUS SCHOOL Simprug Class of 2026 CAS Team, Cahaya Rain Solutions, has achieved a remarkable milestone—securing a spot among the Top 40 finalists of the prestigious Habitat Youth Solutions 2025. Representing Indonesia on the international stage, this passionate group of students will present their community-driven water filtration project from 24-26 June 2025 at the Habitat for Humanity Youth Assembly in Cebu, Philippines, standing out among participants from twelve countries.

From Class Project to Changemaking Movement
At BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, student-led initiatives are more than just projects—they’re personal journeys of growth, empathy, and impact. Cahaya Rain Solutions exemplifies this spirit. With encouragement from the school’s distinctive Journeys Programme and the mentorship of Mr. Rama, this team transformed a classroom idea into a mission that reaches far beyond school walls.
The project focuses on the development and implementation of natural water filtration systems in densely populated urban areas, where access to clean water remains a critical concern. By capturing and purifying rainwater, the students aim to alleviate pressure on existing water infrastructure and bring about meaningful change in communities that are often overlooked.
Java and Greater Jakarta experience high levels of rainfall year-round. Yet much of this valuable resource goes unused. Cahaya Rain Solutions aims to harness this natural abundance, turning every downpour into an opportunity for access to clean water at schools, homes, and public spaces.
Collaboration That Matters

To bring their vision to life, the team partnered with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, a reputable organisation dedicated to building homes and improving lives across the nation. In collaboration with Habitat, the team visited a local school. It began the practical phase of their project, testing their rainwater filter prototype and laying the groundwork for a larger-scale application.
This partnership reflects the team’s commitment not only to theoretical development but also to real-world implementation. Their hands-on involvement ensures that their innovations are rooted in community engagement, not just academic exercise.
A Team Powered by Passion
At the heart of Cahaya Rain Solutions is a diverse, motivated team of young leaders. The Core Team includes Rizki, Edward, and Myron, who have spearheaded the initiative with strategic insight and technical acumen. Supporting them are team members Davrell, Ezell, Kenneth, Raffertha V., Ramiza, Ryan D., Sol Jin, and Theodore, each bringing a unique set of skills and an unwavering dedication to the mission.
Together, they represent the future of socially conscious innovation: a generation of students who think beyond exams and university applications, and instead choose to ask, “How can we help?”
Standing Tall on the Global Stage
After rigorous assessment, the Cahaya Rain Solutions team was named one of the Top 40 global finalists in the Habitat Youth Solutions 2025 challenge. Their work stood out among hundreds of entries from around the world, all vying to tackle pressing social and environmental issues.
The upcoming event in Cebu, Philippines, is more than just an opportunity to showcase their efforts—it’s a platform to inspire, to collaborate, and to learn from fellow changemakers. Standing alongside teams from across the globe, the students of BINUS SCHOOL Simprug will bring Indonesian ingenuity and resilience to an international audience.
More Than Just a Project
This achievement is more than a trophy or accolade; it’s proof that education, when paired with compassion and opportunity, can lead to extraordinary outcomes. Through the CAS programme, students learn not just how to analyse the world, but how to change it.
What started as a student-led idea at BINUS SCHOOL Simprug has grown into an internationally recognised solution. Cahaya Rain Solutions is transforming the abundant rainfall of Greater Jakarta and Java into a sustainable, accessible domestic water source, proving that youth-led innovation can address real-world challenges.
The Journeys Programme supports students in identifying their interests and strengths, then helps them direct their focuses toward developing these areas. With this guidance, they gain the clarity and confidence to turn aspirations into action.
As the team prepares for its international debut in Cebu, they carry more than just a project—they carry a message:
“Young people can lead with impact, heart, and vision.”
In a world facing complex global issues, their story is a powerful reminder that the next generation isn’t waiting for change—they’re already creating it.
